Broker vs Agent | Mike Bjorkman
What is the difference between a broker and an agent? The biggest difference is experience and education. To be a broker you need a few years of full-time experience in the business. Education wise, there are several college courses that need to be completed. Also, a broker can work independently or for other companies.
Brokers have a larger responsibility. Real estate agents have to go to their broker for everything. The broker is responsible for the actions of all of the agents.
Broker Associate is another title for agents who have gone the extra mile to gain the extra knowledge. Basically, they have the education but still work under the broker.
You still need to be careful. Just because someone has a lot of letters following their name on a business card, does not automatically mean they are a better agent.
Continuing education is a big thing for brokers. For example, starting November 1 of 2014 the entire listing package for a listing is completely different. So it is a broker’s responsibility to study it and make sure all of the agents are aware of all the changes.
