Realtor Safety Tip – pepper spray, guns, and apps aren’t the solution! Realtor safety and tragedy are making headlines far too often. There have been over two hundred real estate work-related fatalities since 2010. Assaults and violent attacks, including homicide, make up the majority of these deaths. In order to address the issue, dozens of untrained, inexperienced, and unqualified agents have taken to the blogosphere. None of them know what the hell they are talking about.
In this business we recommend that clients seek the best advice from qualified and experienced professionals. Yet we turn to a random real estate blog, our broker, or the nearest alpha male (wannabe or used to be) for advice on how to protect ourselves from real bad guys. And let’s be honest, you won’t follow generic safety guidelines anyway. You will meet strangers away from the office. You will not call the office every 15 minutes every time you show property.
Using a security app? Sometimes bad guys may not let you use your phone. Taking someone with you? 90lb Mildred from the office is NOT going to protect you when things go south. And sometimes bad guys bring friends too.
