1. Vet them – google them, read their online reviews, interview them, ask for personal references. My reviews can be found here:

2. Like them – You’re going to be spending a fair amount of time with them and they’ll be intimately involved in one of your biggest purchases or sales ever. You may want to like them. If they aren’t very likable then that can cause problems on the other side of the deal as well.
3. Don’t feel obligated – You very likely know or are related to REALTOR’s. It can be okay to work with friends and family, but interview them the same way you would a REALTOR you looked up online. If they are making you feel obligated then they are already putting their interests ahead of yours.
